Discussion will Outline Technologies that Can Help Mining Companies Reduce Costs and Protect the Environment
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., April 17, 2012 - Driven by increased demand for precious metals and fossil fuels, the mining industry is in the midst of a growth surge. Continued success for mining companies is dependent on a number of factors including regulatory compliance, community acceptance, efficient machinery and processes, and resource availability. In particular, significant volumes of water are required for dust-suppression, cooling, make-up water, ore-processing, grinding, leaching, and power and steam generation on site. During MiningWorld Russia (April 24th-26th) in Moscow, Bernhard Doll, vice president of industrial water marketing at Pall, will outline examples of the latest technologies that can help mining companies reduce costs, improve processes and protect the natural environment of the communities in which they operate.

MiningWorld Russia is an international conference and exhibition for mining and processing of metals and minerals. Mr. Doll’s presentation, “Mine Water and Wastewater Treatment Solutions for Discharge and Reuse in Open Pit and Underground Mining,” will take place on April 24th.
“Given that more than 70 percent of pollutants from mining operations are emitted into water, effective treatment prior to discharge is of critical importance for preserving the environment,” said Mr. Doll.
The Pall AriaTM system, a cornerstone of Pall’s water treatment solutions portfolio, utilizes unique hollow-fiber membranes with outstanding regeneration capabilities that cost-effectively produce high quality water. The robust fibers also help ensure consistent system performance and reliability.
“With hundreds of Pall AriaTM membrane water treatment system installations worldwide, Pall has gained tremendous expertise in water treatment at mining and other industrial and municipal sites,” adds Mr. Doll. “Mine operators will benefit from advances in technology tailored for mining as well as a broad range of other water treatment applications.”
Mr. Doll will present case studies highlighting several successful industrial-scale plants, with emphasis on gold and coal processing sites. Applications will include treatment of mine drainage water, pit water, waste water, and produced water from coal seam methane sites. He will also describe the production of potable and process water from ground water by removing contaminants, including heavy metals and pathogens. Alexander Volkov, a representative from the Pall office in Moscow and a specialist in hydraulic filtration applications for mining, will translate the presentation into Russian.
Pall’s Machinery and Equipment group delivers Total Cleanliness Management (TCM) solutions for the mining, pulp and paper, primary metals, and manufacturing industries, as well as mobile equipment fabricators worldwide. TCM solutions encompass effective assessment, implementation and monitoring to enable users to reduce environmental impact and help ensure worker safety. Pall products and services purify hydraulic and lubricating fluids, coolants, water, fuels, air, gases, and process flow streams to help customers extend fluid life; reduce scrap rates, energy consumption and worker exposure; and improve equipment reliability and productivity.
