Pall Point-of-Use Filters Offer Solution for German Water Contamination Issue
Recent report from TÜV Rheinland and German broadcaster ARD on microbial contamination of public water supply systems raises concerns over waterborne infections
DREIEICH, Germany, August 11, 2011 - Microbiological results from a test by TÜV Rheinland (Germany) and German broadcaster ARD showed that every second water sample analyzed from publicly accessed buildings and vehicles was contaminated (based on total bacterial count), and some of them with E.coli or coliforms and Legionella. In all, 50 water samples, including those from city halls, hospitals, nursing homes and universities, across 10 major German cities were analyzed. Pall Kleenpak(TM) family of filters. Pall Corporation (NYSE: PLL), a global leader in filtration, separation and purification solutions, offers Pall-AquasafeTM and Pall KleenpakTM point-of-use tap and shower filters that protect against waterborne contaminants. The responsibility for drinking water quality lies with the operator/owner of each public building, according to the German drinking water regulation ("Verordnung über die Qualität von Wasser für den menschlichen Gebrauch." Trinkwasserverordnung - TrinkwV 2001, BGBl. I(24) p. 959-980). Water used by end consumers should be free from pathogens and should not impair human health. Immediate and validated protection against waterborne pathogens is provided by Pall filters. "Pall-Aquasafe point-of-use filtration at taps and showers is widely used in clinical institutions to protect patients and avoid water-associated infections," confirmed Dr. Vicky Katsemi, Pall Medical's Water Specialist at Pall GmbH. “Pall Kleenpak point-of-use tap and shower filters utilize similar technology and these products are increasingly used as a quick solution outside hospitals in cases of high contamination rates in the water supply systems of public buildings.” The Pall filters are validated to remove water-associated bacteria, fungi and protozoa and can be easily connected for immediate protection.
