PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., October 14, 2009 - Pall Corporation (NYSE:PLL), a global leader in filtration, separation and purification, has been selected by the Southeast Desalting Association (SEDA) to present at the organization’s first Microfiltration/Ultrafiltration Workshop. The workshop will take place during the 2009 Fall Operators Symposium in Miami, Florida, October 26-27. Tony Wachinski, Ph.D., senior vice president, Pall Water Processing, will represent the company on the panel, discussing the Pall Aria™ hollow fiber microfiltration membrane system for reverse osmosis (RO) pre-treatment.
The Pall Aria system efficiently and cost-effectively removes suspended solids from any source water, including sea or brackish water. This technology replaces more cumbersome, inefficient, and expensive conventional pretreatment systems such as air flotation, clarification, sand/mixed media, and cartridge filtration. By pre-treating with Pall microfiltration, the RO membranes are exposed to a lower volume of particulate matter. This protective capability significantly reduces the number of membrane cleanings, increases efficiency, and prolongs the life and value of the RO system. More than 400 filtration systems using Pall Aria membrane technology have been installed worldwide.
“Combining the strengths of Pall’s membrane technologies, engineering, and technical expertise, the Pall Aria microfiltration system is designed for high-yield production of pure water from sea and brackish water. It also prepares wastewater for re-use,” said Dr. Wachinski.
Pre-treatment with the Pall Aria system provides:
A low concentration of suspended particles, enabling RO membranes to operate at high flux.
Stable pre-treated water that extends the life of RO membranes.
Lower costs for power, cleaning chemicals, pre-filter cartridge changeouts, and labor.
Additional cost savings because fewer pressure vessels and RO membranes are needed.
An affiliate of the American Membrane Technology Association, the Southeast Desalting Association (SEDA) is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of water supplies through membrane desalting and filtration, water reuse and other water sciences (www.southeastdesalting.com).
Pall is a leader in membrane technology solutions and, together with its long-term global partner Asahi Kasei, provides water treatment systems for large and small municipalities and industrial customers worldwide. In addition to serving the $6 billion municipal water market, Pall’s filtration technology is increasingly becoming a critical step in treating water for a wide range of industrial applications. This includes intake and process water for food, beverage, chemical, oil, gas, power, and semiconductor production, among others. Pall’s technology enables businesses to conserve and reuse water, and to restore wastewater to environmentally safe levels before discharge.
