East Hills, NY (April 26, 2005) - - Pall Corporation (NYSE: PLL) introduces a new Kleenpak? connector to improve process economics for an even broader range of biopharmaceutical applications. Capable of withstanding autoclave steam temperatures up to 130 degrees centigrade (130°C), the new Kleenpak HT connector enables aseptic connections to be made in mere seconds. It is the only aseptic connector that does not require laminar flow hoods or other capital equipment to make a connection.

Its use at critical junctures throughout biopharmaceutical processing speeds the formation of aseptic connections from starting fluid to purified product. Compared to traditional connection methods, such as tubing welders and quick connectors, Kleenpak connectors shorten the time it takes to create aseptic connections from 15 minutes to less than 30 seconds. The Kleenpak connector's innovative design provides venting during autoclaving, which allows steam to penetrate and prevents tubing from collapsing after autoclaving. Rigorous validation tests demonstrate the connector's ability to connect two fluid pathways while maintaining the sterile integrity of both.
The new Kleenpak HT connector can be used in a controlled or uncontrolled environment to simplify the transfer of inocolums to reactors, sampling during fermentation or cell culture, handling of bulk material in a non-sterile environment, and the creation of connections between sterile equipment as well as disposable systems. It also eliminates the need for a large amount of floor space or maintenance of equipment and documentation required for laminar flow hoods and tubing welders.
The Kleenpak HT connector is Pall's latest addition to its extensive line of single-use technologies in support of the industry's increasing adoption of disposable processing methods.
