East Hills, NY (November 22, 2005) - - Creating a wine's unique bouquet while maintaining uniformity of taste and intensity of flavor from bottle to bottle is an exacting task. Achieving this delicate balance requires numerous steps in the winemaking process including clarification to separate out undesired particulate and microorganisms. Pall Corporation (NYSE: PLL), the global leader in filtration, separation and purification technologies to the food and beverage industries, is introducing its newest wine clarification system to help ensure the highest level of protection of wine quality and characteristics. The new OenoFlow? XL System, designed specifically for large wineries, is being introduced at SIMEI, the largest international enological and bottling equipment exhibition, this week.
The OenoFlow XL System is the newest generation of Pall's OenoFlow line of products which have rapidly become the worldwide benchmark in reducing the need for filter aides, including diatomaceous earth (DE), in the wine making process without affecting the quality of the final product. As the most modern and advanced alternative to DE filtration, the giant hollow fiber module of the OenoFlow XL cross-flow filtration system will help large wineries set a new standard in achieving their brand quality, yield and integrity goals.
"Pall's wine processing technologies are designed to help wine makers safeguard the quality of their brand reliably and cost effectively," says Wolfgang Platz, President of Pall Food & Beverage. He explains that the OenoFlow XL System gives large wineries the ability to achieve their goals by enabling clarifying processes that no longer require filter aids and/or centrifuges. They will be able to maintain high flow rates for maximum yield while also reducing the costs associated with subsequent filtration steps in the process by removing a majority of the contaminants in the initial production stage.
The unique, symmetric structure of the hollow fiber microfiltration membrane offers all the advantages and benefits that Pall OenoFlow systems provide to mid-sized and boutique wineries. These include a high filtrate output, no pretreatment of the wine, no filter aids thereby eliminating DE disposal and handling, easy and safe operation, and consistent filtrate quality with maximum protection of the sensorial characteristics of the wine. Even with the large area modules, the OenoFlow XL System is a compact design requiring only a minimum footprint for plant installation. Its new software and touch screen makes the system even more user-friendly and simple to operate.
The OenoFlow XL System is the latest addition to Pall's OenoFlow line of products for Total Fluid ManagementSM (TFM) throughout the winemaking process from grape to bottle. Complementary products include OenoClear? Filters for pre-bottling filtration steps to remove yeast and bacteria and OenoPure? filters for microbial stabilization to remove organisms that can cause spoilage and also affect wine color and clarity.
